The thought of starting a modeling career is insanely exciting, we know. You can already see the photographers flashes going off and hear the sound of your private jet starting up. But don’t let the glitz and glam lure you in like a moth to a flame. There may not be a straight path to a modeling career, but here are guidelines to make sure you stay on your path. At all costs, make sure you avoid…

Mall Scouts

“You have a great look, have you ever considered modeling?” they’ll ask you – and twenty other people – each hour. You can’t entirely trust the motives here. You may also get stopped in the street by a scout. You should ask for their card, but never give out your information. Research them and the company they represent and make sure that it’s a legitimate company before contacting them. Look for reviews, and watch out for words like ‘scam’ in connection with the company. You can follow up with them, but not before you’ve really done your research!

Model Schools

First of all, they will accept anyone who applies, so going to modeling school does not make you a model. At the end, they’ll give you a certificate- which is not required for modeling. And graduation these schools does not guarantee that you’ll find work as a model. In other words, if you’re looking for the title “model”, recognition, and ultimately work, you wont find that here. What you will find are some classes and a massive bill. Most of what you would learn there, you’ll learn here with FMO. Save your money! On that note…

Spending a lot of Money

If there is one thing you should invest in, its your photos. With that said, you shouldn’t go overboard either. A couple hundred dollars should do it. Self promotion is a great way to get yourself out there, and the best way to do so would be with a solid portfolio. Be weary of anyone making big promises, and asking for money upfront. Get your pictures together, put yourself out there, and see how far you can get yourself. Today, with social media, anything is possible!
